Additional Fridays

We have exhibited for five Fridays thus far in Downtown Crossing's Art Fridays Event on Summer Street in Boston. We have been received well and have made numerous new friends.

We have been asked by the Boston Improvement District to display on additional Fridays throughout their season and have accepted starting June 17th and June 24th. Other Fridays will be posted both on our website and Facebook.

Please come visit Tico Art, the other great local artists or listen to the live music throughout the day.

Art Fridays Featured Artist of the Week: Fred Drew

This week's Art Fridays Featured Artist is Fred Drew, owner and founder of Tico Art Products, which specializes in handcrafted puzzle boxes.

Several years ago, while visiting Costa Rica, Fred was introduced to Costa Rica's culture of artisan woodcrafters. He developed a fair-trade, eco-friendly collaborative partnership with his "amigos, compañeros y trabajadores," with whom he develops his puzzle box prototypes every year. The Boston Redevelopment Authority is allowing Artists to display in the Downtown Crossing Art Fridays Market.This market will take place every Friday from May to October from 11 am – 6 pm on Summer Street in Downtown Crossing.

We will be there for the following dates:

May 7th - May 13th - May 27th - June 3rd - June 10th - July 1st - August 19th - September 16th - September 23rd

Our new Eastern Star or "Estrella del Este"

We have received the most requests for an Eastern Star Design for a puzzle box. We have developed two types are will be offering both this year.
Many of our female customers that bought a Masonic Puzzle Box had asked why we didn't have an Eastern Star. So last year we promised it would be our top priority.

Not knowing what one doesn't know is often the problem. The Eastern Star's basic five pointed design with the pentagon in the center is the only constant. Each state's design had a different symbol. So we decided to leave the center pentagon unembellished.
Next up was the colors in the star. Since we don't paint or stain the wood, we choose the closest natural shades to the Eastern Star's color scheme.

White - Naranjo, wood from the orange tree
Red - Narazena, Purple Heart
Yellow - Mora, the golden jewel
Blue - Cocobolo, Rosewood
Green - Guapinal

Each star will vary, as God made every tree different, but I know you will find them even more beautiful that our photos show.

Now we couldn't decide between a circular box or a pentagon, so we made both and will present both in May.

We now present two forms of our Eastern Star or a Tico would call it "Estrella del Este".
